Ubuntu 9.04 is currently at alpha stage, and therefore you should expect frequent system breakage. If you require a stable system, I would suggest installing 8.10.

If you are keen on testing 9.04 and perhaps providing feedback/bug reports, I would suggest searching ubuntuforums.org and launchpad bug reports for a possible solution to your problem.

I didn‚t know that it is unstable, someone on forum said that I should do that, and that sound was perfect. I‚m new in Linux, and now I read about 9.04. I try to fix the problem in order not to reinstall my system.

Jaunty is not for Ubuntu newbie, it require more skilled Ubuntu user to solve bugs and issue related to the new incoming packages and new or modified functions.

By the way i use Jaunty 9.04 from november 2008 with no big problem and i'm able to play sound... so please

Be sure your Jaunty is updated upgraded, in Jaunty (in development stage) sometimes there are more than 50 package updates a day...

Go to menu: System → Preference → Sound [ Devices tab ]and put all selection to ALSA and test the sound....

If you can listen audio but at low volume please ask here.

Hope this helps

I don`t know if this helps but I had no sound with Ubunto 8.10 and 9.04. I tried everything. Checked volumes and mutes, put is a soundboard I knew to be compatible and carried out all the checks imaginable on Terminal. Today, trying to sort out a colour problem on my HP22 screen, I did a factory reset and got a ping when completed. I now have sound!

Hello all,

I'm facing the same issue since I installed Jaunty. I've installed all the necessary drivers and plugins that it has prompted me to download; but no luck.

I've also followed the suggestion given in this link:

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/sound-solutions-for-ubuntu-904-jaunty-users.html

After following all the steps I can "see" music has started; but, without any sound output with or without headphones.

Volume Meter (playback) of PulseAudio Applet shows the front-left and front-left bars are moving. I don't understand what is the matter with sound?

Any help regarding this will appreciated. Thanks in advance!
