how to add "Í" symbol to "altgr+i" in english keymap in ubuntu gnome?

Asked by dinar qurbanov

hello.

i asked https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/20524 one time, i tried that a little in several linux dustributions that time, but have not tried since then, have not learned. i was like lazy to do that.

this question 'how to add "Í" symbol to "altgr+i" in english keymap in ubuntu gnome?' is very concrete question and concretely this key assignment maybe useless, but this is as question about how to do, i use english keymap in the answer, because it is almost on all installed ubuntus if not on all.

Just under 'Caps Lock' use the shift key and the key next to it.

Is that the one? On the keyboard there appears to be a little gap but on the screen there isn't. Did it work?

Tom

To produce "Í" you first have to set a compose key. Go to System, Preferences, Keyboard and click on the "Layouts" tab and then on "Layout Options". Click on "Compose key position" and select the key that you are going to use. Close all the screens.

To create the "Í" symbol, use this sequence:

1. compose key
2. '
3. I

Result = Í

to Andre Mangan :
thank you for the good advice. but i mean and want other thing. i want to make custom key combination on [any] layot i want.
for example if i switch layot to russia-tatar , that way you said do not work with this layot. for example i want get "Í" when pressing right alt + и in this layot (tatar).

between the z and the shift key is a weird little key with a \ mark on it. Press shift and that one to get a | on the weird little key the | mark is shown as having a little gap about half-way up but that doesn't appear when you use the key.

Good luck :)
