Try booting with the "nodma" boot option. Your disk should support DMA, but it's worth a try.

The boot options can be modified with F6 on the first menu: http://www.ubuntu.com/include/testing/flight5/gfxboot-small.png

Sorry, just realized you are installing Breezy. That image was from Dapper :)
At the very first menu you have some help on F1-F6, right? At the Boot: prompt you can type "linux nodma" if I remember correctly.

I'm having this problem as well on a vgn-s580 (which is the US name for the vgn-s5). At the moment I'm having to resort to running Fedora Core 5 on it which runs correctly, although with a far inferior setup as far as laptop support so I want off it and back onto Ubuntu :-) I'm maintaining an up-to-date Dapper image in a different partition as a chroot to keep trying. I can help gather information, although the fact that this error leaves the kernel unable to write to the disk means that problems don't appear in logfiles. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the installer kernel/options which I guess means seriously conservative settings are okay, but nodma seems a little extreme, dma is on in the Fedora kernel afaict.

Mats, you maintain Dapper using chroot. That means everything is fine using the Fedora kernel, but you get this error running the Ubuntu kernel? If this is the case, please file a bug on the ubuntu linux-meta package. State what kind of chipset you have (lspci -vv should be fine). Please have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSystemCrash and see if you can get a trace like described there.

adalbarbosa, it would be helpful if you can confirm the bug that Mats filed. You are also welcome to close this support request, since it now has become a bug instead.
