synaptic manager and add /remove programme not showing

hi, i have just formatted my system.
 under applications tab, The Add or Remove Programmes do not show

under system -- administration also, the synaptic system manager does not show.
i have not been able to update.

jerry@kwam-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get update
jerry@kwam-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get update
jerry@kwam-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
jerry@kwam-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
jerry@kwam-desktop:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
jerry@kwam-desktop:~$

Could you please post the output of the following commands:
 echo $SHELL
 type sudo
 sudo /bin/bash -c 'type apt-get'
 sudo /bin/bash -c 'type dpkg'

hi, i reinstalled ubuntu and its OK now
