will a 32 bit ubuntu server backup a 64 bit vista

I am building a home server and want to use my old pentium 3 with Ubuntu server. Will this server my 64 bit HP system?

If you want to install 32 Bits applications in a 64 bit machine capable you don't have any problem, but if you want to install a a 64 bit application in 32 bit machine....impossible.

If the backup have data and other "minor" architecture dependant...no problem.

I think the question clifb is asking is can the 32bit ubuntu running serve files to a newer 64 bit HP workstation? then the answer is yes. filesharing, printer sharing, network sharing doesnt care about the cpu architecture.
