Screen Resolution issue

Asked by Ashok

I have successfully install Ubuntu 8.10 from my live cd and it loads upto the login screen. But 1/3 of the screen is not visible. All i can see is the ubuntu logo and nothing else. Bottom most screen shows half of the textbox and nothing more.

I have tried to change the kernel boot option to add VGA=792 to get the screen size of 1024*768. But nogo.

Can anyone help me with this.

open a terminal via Application->Accessories->terminal or if you cannot see that, press Control-Alt-F1 and login with your username and password. then update ubuntu with the latest packages with:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

once you reboot, see if you have any restricted drivers you can enable for your video card. if that does not solve your problem, please give us the output of:

lshw -C display
