how to install zoneminder

Asked by freddie sealey

I installed "zoneminder" thru synaptic manager and I got bunches of files which can be found in files....but nowhere else. I can always get something from synaptic manager and just do the usual hunting thru applications or system and then click and use. Why not with "zoneminder" and how can I get it working ? (home security is all I'm after)

thanks
f

Try this: press Alt+F2 and type "zoneminder". Or type it into a Terminal, open Terminal by "Applications"-->"Accessories"-->"Terminal".

Btw, you can also add a new item to the menu, by right-clicking on the main menu button and choose "Edit menus".Then go to "Applications" and click "New item". The command to launch the program would be "zoneminder".

well......thats a nice f2 trick but for whatever reason(not holding mouth right i guess) it didn't work :-( neither did the terminal. I did edit menu thing and got zoneminder listed at bottom of list but wouldn't do anything. it says there is no such directory. I looked back in my files and found everything(somehow thinking it might not be there but it sits there smiling at me). I'm sure I am missing something vvvvery simple here....just don't know what :-)==

well maybe I'm beating a dead horse here. I have noticed several programs that weren't there before i.e. Audacious, monodoc, zapping t.v. viewer.xsane image scanner, f spot photo manager...among others. I just thought there would be a way to orchestrate it all rather than doing it all separately, a conductor of sorts. Am I looking for too much here?

thanks

I'm not that good at command line yet(revealing my ignorance) so I guess I wil stick to what I have and try to make it fly first. If it fails I'll go to motion and take some lesons on command line stuff(habitually lazy)
