trying to install Kubuntu 7.04 in XP

Asked by Avi

I will admit I am new to the Linux world, trying to do my part to learn enough to help the community. Having said that, I downloaded Kubuntu 7.04, burned the .iso to Cd and rebooted my system to check the CD's integrity... It works on both my main computer and 3 of my friends computers. When I use it on my back-up computer (the one I want to install Kubuntu on) I can run it off the live CD... It starts up and goes to a blank screen where I can type in (sort of like DOS)... can anyone help me with this?

The computer was made by Matrix (Best Buy house brand), XP, 256 MB nVidia card (not sure the model), 2 GB of Ram and 2.8 Ghz P4

Thanks for your question.

Do you get to the menu screen where you can choose between different options? If so please hit 'F6' and delete the words 'quiet' and 'splash' (or 'usplash') and then hit enter to start it up.

Please report to use the error messages before it stops.

Thanks

I get the error message 156, where it tries to run from a directory that does not exist... then it tells me it is "running local boot scripts" and hangs up there and allows me to type in a prompt.... the "man sudo" command works, and gives me a text file to read explaining how to use the "sudo" command (greek to me at this point in my linux life) and if I type "sudo root" it send me to "root:ubuntu" or something similar to that....

What is my next move?

it sends me to the command prompt "ubuntu@ubuntu"

Sorry for the mix-up

try a different cd and or hard drive on that system sounds like something is wacky with it...

Can you help with this problem?
