Asked by ambi

I own Sahara laptop I am unable to get sound from laptop speakers though i am getting it through headphones and everything is fine in windows

I have tried whatever i could find such as checking "switches in volume panel, checking whether it is mute or not",
also did
ambi@ambi-laptop:~$ head -n 1 /proc/asound/card0/codec*

==> /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 <==
Codec: Realtek ALC861-VD

==> /proc/asound/card0/codec#1 <==
Codec: Generic 11c1 ID 1040

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
options snd-hda-intel model=hp
further replaced hp with lenovo,dallas,3stack.
but no sound
i am posting output sound cards--
cat /proc/asound/cards

Also please run the Hardware Testing tool in
System menu - Administration - Hardware Testing

and (if you haven't already) please try the alsa testing tool
http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-driver.git;a=blob_plain;f=utils/alsa-info.sh

Err, it might be worth right-clicking on the Speaker icon in the top taskbar - and choose 'Open Volume Control' and check the volume levels are set reasonably - i often find i've the obvious.

There's also a guide on sound problems at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems

I recommend following nhasian's suggestion 1st and post back the results of
sudo lshw -C multimedia
as its quick and easy
