new guy to pc's having issues error fix?

virgin to pc's getting error code,pc froze and had to do a manual restart(pushed the power button)downloaded updates and started to install,froze,restart,now ubuntu won't connect with firefox updates won't continue to install,just error message keeps poping up and don't know how to fix the problem any assistance would be greatly appreiciated!

i think we need a bit more information about your computer. What version of Ubuntu are you using? what are your computer specs?

If you are using Ubuntu 8.10 and have the intel 4965AGN wifi adaptor it will crash frequently unless you enable the intrepid backports in System->Administration->Software Sources then go to Updates, then click Unsupported updates (intrepid-backports)

Also it's worth checking you have enough space on your drive. Windows used to grind to a halt if my drive was 80% full but with linux i can squeeze another whole episode of Voyager on :)
