My Ubuntu installation hasn't had any problem recognizing the Network. I noticed when I installed "Virtual Machine" that it did lose the Network Connection, but after I rebooted it automatically reconfigured the Connection again.
Try Powering Off the modem and any Wireless Devices if you are using a Wireless network to connect with. I am sure that Ubuntu has to refresh the IP address just like Windows does. Try to Turn everything off then Turn it all back on again, and see if that helps.

That didn't seem to work. A question i need to add is in the network settings should there be a wireless connection choice?

Rebooting the router sometimes helps. A friend said 'Power cycle it' which means switch it off count slowly to 3 and then switch it back on again.

Then your machine should pick it up again or maybe might need a reboot if he's on Windows or in linux type (into a teminal window)
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
<type in users password (not the root password)>

Did that fix it?

does your laptop have one of those physical switches on the front or side that you can turn your wifi on/off? sometimes i accidentally switch my wifi off like that just handling the laptop. if that's not the case, maybe you can provide us with some more information. in a terminal please give us the output of the following commands:

lshw -C network

iwconfig

Coool, nicely fixed. a number of people are having similar problems os it looks like you might be able to get a big Karm points boost fairly easily now :)

Good luck and have fun in linux
