On https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/internet/C/index.html and https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/serverguide/C/networking.html you find some information about setting up networking.

If you have special questions please give some more details about what you already have and what you want to get.

Thanks Florian :)

I'm on a network and trying to get my 2nd machine to get internet (and files from the network) through my main machine which happens to have 2 ethernet ports and i've got some 'twisted pair cable'.

So far i haven't even been able to get both machines seeing each other.

Anyway, thanks for the handy links there, i noticed a chapter on 'bridging' which looks relevant.

Good luck and thanks, hopefully Priscilla will find this useful too, sorry i piggy-backed there
Regards from
Tom :)

My problem is trying to work out which address should go where. The server between me and my proposed network serves dhcp addresses and i don't really want to change that.

Another problem i'm having is trying to get my machine to use the same Workgroup as the other machines on the server that's upstream of me. But i guess that's another question entirely. Or else it's just cos i haven't read the manual you linked us to there. Thanks for that and good luck :)

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/reposting a question just before america arrives online gives the best chance of getting a good few answers.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved.

Good luck and many regards from
Tom :)
