Asked by jmorrissette

I'm new with Ubuntu and linux I was told by the a Bell technician that install my internet that Linux is much better than Window and I want to give ti a try.
I install Ubuntu 8.10 on my machine I started it up, did the update about 264 and when I reboot it, it did all is check everything says OK it ask me my Ubuntu name and password and all I get is to a prompt.
I tried to reinstall Ubuntu and it still doesn't work I hand up at the same point all the time.
So know I have 3 versions of Ubuntu on my machine that won't work can't get to Windows any more and don't know how to remove the extra versions of Ubuntu.
So can somebody help me PLEASE.
Jean

If one of the 'extra copies of Ubuntu' on yur hard-drive is something like

Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic (recovery mode)

then select that instead of trying the normal Ubuntu boot. This should hopefully give you an option to fix or rebuild the X-windows - try it and let us know even if it does help

Thanks
Tom
