Did you modify you /etc/apt/sources.list ?

Can you give us the ouput of
sudo apt-cache policy vlc libavcodec1d

Also try a "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade"

Hello,

I've asked once, I'm asking again now and I'm not going to ask a third time:

Have you modified (read: edited) your /etc/apt/sources.list or any file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d?

Also please give us the output of the command
                            sudo apt-cache policy vlc libavcodec1d

Anyway, your Shift Key seems to be broken. It was turned on all the time as you posted your second last message.

Could you do a sudo apt-cache vlc-plugin-pulse as well?

Either way, you seem to have your sources.list modified. Please remove all additions to that.

For future reference: Please give the output of a command including the prompt like this:
muelli@xbox:~$ apt-cache policy vlc
vlc:
  Installed: 0.9.4-1ubuntu3
  Candidate: 0.9.4-1ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 0.9.4-1ubuntu3 0
        500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/multiverse Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     0.8.6.release.e+x264svn20071224+faad2.6.1-0ubuntu3.2 0
        500 http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/multiverse Packages
        500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/multiverse Packages
     0.8.6.release.e+x264svn20071224+faad2.6.1-0ubuntu3 0
        450 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Packages
muelli@xbox:~$

Concerning your error: Please remove vlc by doing sudo apt-get remove vlc and install it via apt-get install vlc/intrepid

If anything fails, give the exact command and output like I said above.
