Hi, I received this error message when trying to install ubuntu 8.10 64-bit;
This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

I am running a Q6600 processor with virtualization enabled on the bios of my motherboard. I should be able to run 64bit ubuntu. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the Intel Q6600 processor supports 64 bit.

if i'm not mistaken, virtualization in the bios is usually OFF by default. you should leave it off unless you plan on running multiple multiple OSes at the same time with some virtualization software like VirtualBox or VMware. Please also check that you have the latest firmware for you bios.

Can you help with this problem?
