AR242x wireless chipset not working in Ubuntu

I am running Ubuntu 8.10, but an very new to it. I cannot get a wireless connection and don't know how to fix it. PLEASE HELP ME. I have read some other posts and have done some tests on configs etc, which I will post below - should have all the info needed - or at least I hope so.

Your adapter seem to be installed. Cant you configure it through the systems network configurator?
