Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit install stuck on busybox

Asked by Polarican

Ok, I just built a new system. I got my windows vista 32-bit to run on one partion. Now I want to install ubuntu 8.10 second so I can use grub to choose which to boot from on startup (ubuntu is also way better). I am installing the 64-bit ubuntu (I have amd cpu) but when I do it seems to get stuck on a screen with busybox and somthing about initram. I tried the 32-bit version I used to install the one on my laptop but I got the same thing with that on my new system.

some specs:
AMD Phenom x4 9500 2.20GHz
OCZ 800MHz 2048 x2
WD 640GB HDD
2 x XFX 9600 GSO 768 GDDR2 ~SLI~

Please help I don't know what I'll do if I have to be stuck using vista all the time!!!

Hello

Are you installing via Wubi? If so just boot into windows and then Shutdown using proper windows shutdown procedure turn the computer back on and it should work. Sounds crazy but it works has something to do with the underlaying technology of wubi

So it gets stuck in busybox when booting from the livecd? If so then try
burning another copy at a slower speed, 8x is recommended. If that
doesn't work try redownloading the iso.

Please re-post this as a new question. We have new people at the front-desk all the time so it's worth trying asking again. The best time to ask is just before americans are likely to be returning from Work or school as there are usually more people getting ready to deal with the rush about then.
