Scanner suggestions for Intrepid ?

Asked by Fabián Rodríguez

Hi

I'd like to hear if anyone has suggestions for a scanner that works out-of-the box with Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid).

I am not looking for a multi-function device, only a scanner. I also know about the sane project site, the wiki, etc., I am already looking at all of those resources.

I don't want to install any package, fiddle with any permissions, download anything... unless perhaps HPLIP. I am looking for an absolutely-zero-configuration scanner. Canonical doesn't have component certification yet, so we don't have hard data to go about at this point (in case anyone wonders I work at Canonical).

I can search, trust me - but I'd like to have first-hand accounts of what people are using without any trouble at all. Lots of reports out there refer to Hardy at best and when something works out of the box people hardly ever post about it.

Thanks for any hints.

you could have a look at the following compatibility list of sane : http://www.sane-project.org/sane-supported-devices.html

ubuntu uses sane for scanning (and xsane for a gui)

I have a HP Scanjet 4100C which worked intermittently on hardy unless I installed a patch and then it works 100%
The patch is on my ppa : https://launchpad.net/~koen-beek/+archive
It is linked to this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/119819

On Intrepid I have not had any problems with this scanner without the need to apply any patches

Can you help with this problem?
