Can't start the GUI in Ubuntu 8.10

Asked by Rogue

After I installed Ubuntu 8.10. i only had the option to login using the CUI. Would like to use the GUI instead.

I have:

- Tried to reconfigure the xserver.xorg using the " dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg". I was told that in have not installed the xserver-xorg.
- i have tried to use the " sudo apt-get install gdm(kdm, xserver-xorg)" command. But this doesn't work either.

How do i install these packages.

Please help.

i think that you mean command line when you say cui.
because you wont have any problem with cui.
cui=gui+command line
its a new concept.

yes.. I meant the command line. i think my problem is that I have no clue how to install anything. please help. I had assumed that if i completed the installation of Ubuntu 8.10 . It meant that the GUI is also available at the end of the installation..

you may have installed the alternate cd.
