installing ubuntu

Asked by kar2905

I have already ubuntu 8.04 installed in my laptop. I have the cd of ubuntu 8.1 so I want to upgrade it.
Do I have to format the ubuntu 8.04 and then install the new one .
What should be the size of the swap partition ?

its typically 3-5gb, but Id typically recommend 2x your amount of ram.

You can just do an upgrade, check your Sources in the System -> Administration and enable normal releases instead of just LTS. You should then be able to just click the upgrade button.

Typically its best to install again as a clean install in my opinion.

You can't use the 8.10 desktop CD to upgrade, but using the alternate CD or upgrading via internet works fine. See http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

For swap usually 2*size of RAM is a sane choice. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq has some more information about swap space.

Can you help with this problem?
