no ip address asigned auto dhcp upgrade 7.04
I've recently updated ubuntu 6.10 to 7.04, I have a small office server for files and internet sharing, eth0 is connected to the internet provider and eth1 is connected to the local network, after the update eth0 is not able to get the ip address automatically, therefore internet doesn't work. The only way I am able to connect is by running sudo dhclient eth0 and then if I run ifconfig the ip address is shown and the internet works again.
here's the result of ifconfig after running the dhclient eth0 command
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:A1:89:9C:A8

This might be the problem... The different clients override each other all the time.
Make sure you kill all of them and then restart the network with
sudo /etc/init.
I hope this helps

You probably don't want to have a dhcp server running... then you have 2 contradicting servers.
My computer shows the following output:
ii dhcp3-client 3.0.4-12ubuntu4 DHCP Client
ii dhcp3-common 3.0.4-12ubuntu4 Common files used by all the dhcp3* packages
I would think that this is all you need, since I am using dhcp and it is working.

If I restart the server theres no ip asigned on eth0, I have to manually run /etc/init.
Could there be like a temporary fix where "/etc/init.
thanks,

Could you try to isolate the messages in daemon.log and maybe as well from messages.log vor the time of the boot and the time of the network restart and show them here (not the whole thing, just the time around the start of the network).
Thanks

Try removing dhcpcd package it is likely to conflict with dhcp3-client package.

You may have a Netwok Manager interfering with your interfaces, please remove it and report if it helps.
apt-get --purge remove network-manager
You may also explicitly remove dhcdbd package - it is pulled in by network-manager.
You can add --auto-remove to apt-get to remove all the dependencies of network-manager. However you should examine carefully what is going to be removed.
