Installing for dual boot on ready made partition

Asked by Denis R

Hi,

I have a windows xp machine and I wish to install Ubuntu. I have previously already had multiple logical partitions. With C, D (windows), E (which I want to use for Ubuntu), F, G and H (which are for my work).

I was wondering, is it possible to install Ubuntu onto the E drive? Because I tried to install previously, however it stuffed up with an error on my disk. So i had to abort the installation. However it had already created two seperate partitions (which are empty now). So I don't know if that'll stuff it up... but fingers crossed. So can I get ubuntu in stall on my E drive (which I have named LINUX and is empty).

Thanks
-Denis

Yes, you can install ubuntu in E, buat format it as ext3, and make another partition as swap, (for install ubuntu you must have 2 partition, swap and ext3 ....
In, step of installing ubuntu, choose to set your partition manually, your list of partition will be apear, right click your ext3 partition, set for root (/) ...

or the other way ...

you can set your partition when installing ubuntu use the partition E that you make before, in step of installing ubuntu, shoose to set your partition manually, your list of partition will be apear, delete your partition E (please make sure that the partition is correctly E), after delete, there will be some unpartition space, make your partition again, make a partition ext3, set for root (/), put the partition at the end of partition (usually the partition editor will ask you where to put your partition) , then make swap partition, set for swap, put at the end of partition, and try to next step of installing ubuntu ....

Hope this help
