Installing Ubuntu on Toshiba Satelite

Asked by Jason

Hi I am trying install onto Toshiba Satelite and having problems. I have downloaded and created discs of both versions of Ubuntu from the website. The disc boots ok, i choose to run linux from the disc and i am then prompted to enter a login. As I do not have a login it logs in as ubuntu user. After a few minutes I have a blank screen with a white arrow that can be moved around with the cursor pad but nothing else happens.

This is using the most recent download from the ubuntu website, the other disc has similar problems but does not get as far into the login process.

Marcobra, you can find Ubuntu in the site http://www.ubuntu.com, the latest version of Ubuntu is 8.10 and it is really good (better than latest version).

a) To request a free CD:
-> https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

b) To download a CD:
--> http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

You're welcome, ;-D

Hello !!
i am also having the same kind of issue..

I have downloaded the last version on www.ubuntu.com and then installed it... but i get only to apoint where I have a white screen "install" and then it freezes.. no error message...

I would like very muche to install ubuntu but have no idea what I could do...

The laptop has in this moment windows xp pro.. but I was told ubuntu installation would erase automaticly... could this "freeze" be a conflict issue??

Thank you in advance for your time!! :-)

In setup options, edit the line and insert the following command: "vga=771"

This command makes laptops install Ubuntu, because all laptops uses a.... LCD DISPLAY !

So using this configuration, the system will recognise the display and will run :-D

Good luck ;-D

Ciao Enrico .. mi immagino sei italiano vero.. hehe....

Any way... the issue is not with the LCD as the Ubuntu starts to install and then freezes... i have already canceled the partition i had with Windows so now the disk has nothing installed... but anyway I just could got to the language option (step 3) and then choose danish... (as the keyboard is in danish).. and then after having waited half an hour there was nothing happening...

Maybe this could be due to the processor I have... as u know the Satelite 1730 CDT is not the laste released laptop :-)...

Any ideas?? Thanks for the support!
