Sound Blaster 24 bit for Ubuntu 8.10

Asked by sibarnetik

I have tried all the different sound drivers that are showing up in the sound preferences but none of them seem to work... I am pretty new to Ubuntu 8.10 so would require a step by step guide on how to get the card to work also i have 5.1 sound system, Would really appreciate the Help. Currently using CA0106 & had previously tried OSS , HDA nvidia and others that are showing up on the list below is what i got through terminal window command
lsmod | grep snd
snd_hda_intel 381488 2
snd_ca0106 40480 2
snd_ac97_codec 111652 1 snd_ca0106
snd_seq_dummy 10884 0
snd_pcm_oss 46848 0
snd_mixer_oss 22784 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm 83204 4 snd_hda_intel,snd_ca0106,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
ac97_bus 9856 1 snd_ac97_codec
snd_seq_oss 38528 0
snd_seq_midi 14336 0
snd_rawmidi 29824 2 snd_ca0106,snd_seq_midi
snd_seq_midi_event 15232 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi
snd_seq 57776 6 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_timer 29960 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq
snd_seq_device 15116 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq
snd 63268 19 snd_hda_intel,snd_ca0106,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device
soundcore 15328 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 16136 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_ca0106,snd_pcm

cat /proc/asound/cards gives the output below....

 0 [CA0106 ]: CA0106 - CA0106
                      Audigy SE [SB0570] at 0xec00 irq 19
 1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xddef8000 irq 22

I would not know where to start and end reading all the information but from what i make of it its detecting two cards i belive but am not sure on how to get the Sound blaster to work so any help would be appreciated.

Solved it myself by selecting CA 0106 & restarting the system twice
