Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit fails to install, leaving system locked
I have tried the installation from a live DVD and my own downloaded alternate CD (checked using md5sum and confirmed okay). Both installations stop at the same point (after having installed all software and preparing for the final clear up). The last state displayed is: "removing ttf-arphic-
I have tried the 32 bit version and that gives a different problem which I am leaving aside for now since I would really prefer the 64 bit one to work. As a little background, my hardware has not changed for a while and has worked trouble free with 8.04 installed. Both 32 and 64 bit versions of this release are okay suggesting this may not be a fault with my hardware. However, my hardware details from running lshw are:
