8.10 Failing to update and dropping internet

Asked by Garrybuntu

I am new to Ubuntu and i have downloaded and installed 8.10. The internet connection appears to be ok and i can browse the inernet freely, but when i go to do the latest updates via "update manager" it will download maybe 40 - 50% and then freeze bringing up an error message and then the internet does not work and i am requires to reset my modem. This problem also happens when i try to download large files over the internet.

I have a USB Modem if that helps but i have never used Ubuntu so any help would be appreciated.

sudo lshw -C network

- Does this happen in Windows as well? Try downloading this in Windows:
