How to install QuickTax for Windows into Ubuntu?

Asked by Raleigh

I used QuickTax for Windows for tax returns. Recently I switched my Windows system to Ubuntu, but I cannot reinstall my past years' QuickTax software into my computer, so I cannot open my old tax returns as well. How can I install the QuickTax software with CD?

Did you have any success? I purchased Quicktax Standard 2009 and put the cd into the drive. From a terminal window (CLI) I "cd /media/cdrom0' and then ran 'wine setup.exe'. There were some error messages printed but the installation proceeded to the installation key window. I entered the installation key and then Quicktax started OK. When I tried to register the product it gave me an error. When I tried to update Quicktax the program froze and I had to "force quit' to kill it. I could start it again but when I tried to 'Check for updates' under the 'Help' menu item, the program either freezes or crashes,

I rather suspect that secure network access is the problem. If one cannot update the software, it cannot be used. Netfile may fail as well. I did not try it. Running wine as root user did not help. There is a page fault message apparent in the CLI when I run 'wine qt2009.exe' as user or as root from a CLI.

Bottom line.... It does not work right out of the box.

I am using Ubuntu 9.1 (Karmic Koala) with all updates as of Jan 20, 2010.

Can you help with this problem?
