Asked by Rick Moquin

With fiesty I was using VLC to play DVDs, watch videos etc...

Since unstalling Intrepid 8.10 when I select to paly anything, the program window disappears. e.g play dvd and the program vanishes from my desktop (read screen).

I have installed all the codecs etc... that I can find. No player works, Real Player, MPlayer, VLC, Movie Player (totem) etc...

In case you have not tried this yet go to applications-add remove software-browsetype in Kubuntu and hit enter. Kubuntu
restricted extras should come up install this package and it should give you video and audio as well as flash player. I
hope this helps good luck.
