You can install the linux-backports-modules-interpid package. After that, go to System>Administration>Hardware Drivers. You should see two Atheros-related drivers, one named "Support for 5xxx Atheros Wireless Cards" (or whatsoever) and another named "Support for atheros wireless cards". Disable the second driver and enable the first one and then restart.

Every time you want to connect via wireless, if you have a wireless switch, make sure that it's on before booting Ubuntu. After you log in you need to go to System>Administration>Hardware Drivers and DISABLE and RE-ENABLE the "Support for 5xxx..." driver.
Click the network manager icon, the one next to the sound icon. You should see a list of wireless networks.

Hope this helps
