Problem Installing Ubuntu 8.10

Asked by Shihab

Hi, Am fed up of MS W XP reminding me to register the version (which I cant since I dont have access to a retail XP CD for which I have a license and had to use an OEM CD..grrr). My brother pointed out Ubuntu and I downloaded and burned the bootable. When it boots up after installation from within XP and spitting out the CD, the monitor displays a message 'OUT OF RANGE' (i have an LG 19" flat panel with TV Tuner that I use as the primary display) but later starts displaying the booting process. It goes to the Ubuntu process bar screen and then asks for the user name and password that I have put in earlier during installation and then goes into the orange screen and stays there!!!! I kept it on all nite yesterday thinking the installation process may be taking time, but nothing happens!!. Please help.

I am a strict linux newbie although I consider myself quite proficient in windows.

Help of course would be deeply appreciated.

Shihab

Hi Thanks Aman, I have also installed Ubuntu. All I had to do was to format the hardisk and install fresh, instead of trying to keep my XP. I binned the XP and now its all right!!
