Bootable cd - ubuntu 8.10

Asked by Chimes

I downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 and burned it to a cd. I assumed this would be a bootable cd but it does not. What do I need to do to make it bootable?

Thanks,
WEH

Hi,

ubuntu CDs and DVDs are bootable

are you sure you have burned the iso image correctly ? (you should burn the files as an image and not burn the file itself)

following page conatins some information on how to burn an iso image (which is what you download)
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

If you burnt it correctly, it may also be the the bios of your PC has been set-up to not autoboot from the cd

when you look at the CD's contents, does it contain an autorun.inf file ?

That was the problem, I did not burn it as an image. Thank you for taking the time to reply and Happy New Year to you and yours.
