video resolution problem nvidia geforce2go

Asked by dragon

hi, new to ubuntu, sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. i looked through the forums but didn't find a solution.

i have installed ubuntu on a dell laptop with an integrated nvidia geforce2go graphics card. the screen resolution seems to be fixed at 1600x1200. i would like to change it to 1024x768.

system / preferences / screen resolution shows only the 1600x1200 size available.

xrandr shows only this resolution as minimum, current and maximum sizes.

i have downloaded the nvidia legacy driver package x86-96.43.07 but i can't get it to run. i open a terminal window, browse to the correct directory, and type sudo sh (nvidia filename) but i get an error message telling me i'm running an x-server.

help !!!

System --------> Administration -----------> Hardware Drivers

look at your nvidia graphics card and it will be deactivated, Activated it and system automatically download the required drivers.

superb. thanks for that.

i had tried that route first (when i installed ubuntu) but no drivers were listed at that time. just goes to show that the simplest solution is usually the best.

thanks again.

ps if others are reading this looking to solve a similar issue, do all your updates before you begin messing with your drivers.
