create USB stick on MAC - error

I have followed these instructions - twice

https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-macos

at the end of the process I get this message:-

"The created USB device will not boot off a Mac. Insert it into aPC, and select the USB boot option in the BIOS."

I tried to use it in any case but the install will not run???

The whole idea was to be able to boot and then install Ubuntu

Any help will be appreciated

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

hi,
to create the bootable USB i have, since my post, followed these instructions

https://www.lifewire.com/dual-boot-linux-and-mac-os-4125733

they are more explanatory than what I have been doing in the past

The USB eventually boots and I can run the "Try before you install" process
This also takes a loooong time to get running

So I guess I can close this question

Now to try and do an install to my hard disk
