How do I force the trash to empty?

Asked by george_rutkay

Not in any application, just the operating system - there is still something in the trash and I can't empty it. I right click, do the Empty Trash thing, but something remains. It's a folder with some old video files which didn't play.

How do I force the Trash to empty?

thanks!

This is probably a permission issue - that means that you do not have the necessary permission to delete these files completely.

Open a terminal window (Applications, Accessories, Terminal) and either type the following or copy and paste it:

sudo rm -rf ~/.local/share/Trash/files/*

Enter your password when requested.
