cannot access software that previously worked on Windows

I have software that worked on windows but does not work on ubuntu. I need to be able to use Adobe Reader, Lotus Symphony Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger and also software from Simsig. co.uk. None of these now work on ubuntu. I am a new user. Also I have software on cd rom waiting to be loaded some needs adobe to work. How can I get this matter resolved. Every time i try to load these things on i get a message saying ubuntu does not support application Any one help

Instead of Adobe Reader, you can use evince.
Instead of your messenger programs, you can use pidgin.

sudo apt-get install evince pidgin

since Windows is_not Linux .exe files wont run on Ubuntu.

on the other hand, you could always use virtual machine software to do your work, for example:
http://www.virtualbox.org/
