inetrnet connection problem

i have installed ubuntu 6.06 in my system. the problem is i can't connect to the internet. the connection requires username and password. its connects in windowxp but not in ubuntu. the broadband modem connects through network cable to computer. pls help me out. i also dono wat a gateway address is n my provider also doesn't know it.

Note: In future, please create a new support request for a different topic/issue (in this case, upgrading)

If you have Ubuntu 6.06 installed, it is not easy to upgrade to Feisty. To upgrade using a CD, you will need to have the Alternate CD, not the Desktop CD.

You could upgrade to Edgy and then to Feisty if you want, but the easiest way would be a fresh install.

hi...
 thanx for ur help.. i'm now able to connect to internet.. i have another
problem.... i can access my hard disk. i have 2 40 gb hard disk in my
computer. if i try to open it show error image.
