Downgrade from 8.10 to 8.04

Asked by Shiva.Chikkalli

Hi Guys,

I have a healthy running Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.10 dual boot system. Since I have a Intel845 graphics problem and also from support mails, my reading is that "8.04 is the better and stable version than 8.10", I would like to downgrade the Ubuntu to 8.04. Please let me know which option of downgrade is works without any issue.

1) I have seperate partition for XP and 8.04. Shall I re-format the 8.04 drive and install the 8.04 from live CD? Will it take care of GRUB updation?
2) Or should I use "cat /proc/partitions" as mentioned in the "https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/51932".

Please let me know which is the better and less risk option? In any case, I do no have any data that I need to backup, as I have a external hard disk for the regular use.

Thanks and regards,
Shiva

if you are just replacing your existing install of ubuntu just use the live cd, it will take care of grub, it will actually reinstall grub and recreate the menu entries.

There is no way to downgrade, sorry. Yes, GRUB will take care of installing itself correctlyif you reinstall 8.04.
