login problems w/ password w/ umbuntu 8.01

What i thought i typed in as a password and what i apparently typed in were two differents things. Now i can't login at all and i haven't even been able to use my brand new computer at all!! Very furstrated and already don't like the system. Tried to follow a few peoples advice but only made matters worse. Now i'm stuck on a grub prompting screen and i am clueless what to do next. Anybody????

not sure exactly what your mean, but resetting your password is quite easy, after switching on your computer wait until you see an option hit escape to entery menu this is just after you turn on your machine.

then choose recovery mode wait untill that has booted the choose drop to root shell from the menu.

then simply type
passwd username
then follow the prompt and enter your new passwd, if how ever grub is broken you will need to fix this using a livecd.
