I have a similar HP tablet (dv1040). Could you provide the output of lsusb ? From a terminal window, just type lsusb and ENTER.
To get to a terminal window, go to Applications>Accessories>Terminal.

For my laptop I neede to install xserver-xorg-input-evtouch - this may be different for yours, though.

Once installed, a callibration utility was available under System->Administration > Calibrate Touchscreen.
