Broadcom wireless card seeing networks but not connecting

Asked by The Ravenous Llama

I have a Broadcom 4306 card with Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron." After discovering my wifi card didn't work, I installed the firmware files recommended by the Ubuntu wiki page related to this ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx/Hardy ). Now my wireless card can see the networks, but it can't connect to them. What should I do?

P.S. I'm going to put the output of ifconfig and iwconfig on here as soon as I get back over to Ubuntu. I'm on a dual-boot Ubuntu/Windows installation, and as only Windows can use the Internet right now that's what I'm using.

I'm sorry, the card is actually a Broadcom BCM4301. My mistake, though I don't think that affects the solution much.

You can try ndiswrapper and the windows driver, or I believe that Intrepid actually has the correct driver for this card.

I'm using the wl driver in Intrepid for the BCM4312. In Hardy, I had to use ndiswrapper with the windows driver.

I haven't had a chance to download Intrepid yet, and if you say it's working in Intrepid I'll give it a try. I'll put the results here after I've had a chance to download/burn/install it.

I have the firmware added in place, added using b43_fwcutter and a file from my manufacturer's website. But thanks for the suggestion.

Also, if I update my copy of Ubuntu using the alternate-CD, will that keep my drivers already installed? I'd really prefer not to do a clean install.

Also, your solution requires an internet connection, which is impossible right now given I don't have a working wireless card.

(Hit the solve button from Ubuntu. Wireless card works without a hitch.)
