Gnome keyboard mapping problem with OS X 10.4(Intel) X11 Xnest and Feisty XDMCP

Asked by Ariel

The keyboard mappings are messed up once in Gnome using OS X 10.4 (Intel) X11.app (Xnest). I connect to a Feisty 7.04 default install with XDMCP enabled in gdm.

From OS X start X11.app, open Xterm and run Xnest :3 -query 'feisty.ip'

I am then sitting and the GDM login screen. I am able to successfully log into the default GNOME session, however once inside Gnome the keyboard mappings are all messed up (all letters, numbers, symbols, everything is wrong). Going to system, preferences, keyboard then layouts tab shows Keyboard model : Generic keyboard with layout US 105-key keyboard (with windows keys). There are no other options to pick a different keyboard model.

Basically, the keyboard mapping is fine until GNOME takes over. If I choose "Failsafe Terminal" and login in the key mappings are fine. Also, I installed kubuntu-desktop and if I log into a KDE session the keyboard works fine.

This worked with Edgy (6.10).
Everything works fine if I connect from another Ubuntu box, just not my OS X (Apple) computers.
