Broadcom Wireless Card Issues

Asked by Datguywhowanders

Okay, I'm really new at this, just as a quick disclaimer on my ignorance. I just converted my Compaq Presario R3000 from Windows XP to the latest release of Ubuntu. I can't seem to get my wireless card to work. According to Compaq and the results from lspci, I have a Broadcom 4306 and the pciid is 14e4:4320 (rev 03). Now I've tried both ndiswrapper and the fwcutter(?) to try and get the right driver, but I'm not really sure if either worked. The results of iwconfig put out the correct stats for the Broadcom 4306, but I still can't seem to scan for accesspoints of connect to mine. Any help would be great.

Hey there,

Could you run the iwconfig command and copy and paste the output.

The output from running this command:

sudo lshw -C network

would be useful too please ;-)

It looks like you're connected mate,

Could you give me the output of ifconfig, and just double check you don't have any access to the internet.

If you still can't connect to the network - I suggest, you go to
administration > network, select the wireless connection, select
properties and fill out the fields manually.

You'll need the ESSID name from the iwconfig output. Enter that
manually, put it on DHCP make sure theres a tick/selection next to the
wireless card.

Restart your computer/router if that doesn't work straight away.

If you still have no joy give me the output of ifconfig.
