No Sound in Ubuntu 8.04 with nVidia Chipset

Greetings people, can someone help me out with a problem with my sound card.. I can get no sound at all and it really disappoints me tsk tsk.. I am pretty new to Ubuntu so I dont know any workarounds, any answer will be highly appreciated..

Please also follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following commands (type each then hit <enter>)

alsamixer

Then use the arrow keys to increase the volume on all volume bars.

Oops, Since I downloaded Ubuntu 8.04 for my Desktop which has an Intel processor I forgot that I have installed the Ubuntu 8.04 i386 into my notebook that has an amd processor.. Is this the cause of this? Or is it just the same.. I hope this is the problem thats why I am getting some problems with ubuntu. Any confirmation about this?

That was really stupid on my part.. I have downloaded the Ubuntu installer for amd64 machines and installed it then everything went smoothly. Now I can get to hear sounds at last. Guess it was very careless of me, regards to Mark and Thank you for the response..
