A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Asked by Jim Bates

A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'E:Type '--19:19:23--' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'

I was intending to pull down the DVD libs from Medibuntu, but must have misspelled the command string or whatever. In any case, I want to clear the command and be able to go back and try from the beginning. I reviewed the error list suggested by launchpad but just cannot decipher how to clear the error message and dump the command into never-never land.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Also, please note I am a absolutely new Linux user so I may well be missing something obvious or not hitting the right actions at the beginning.

I do not know how to get the system to open the sources.list file so I can capture and post to you.b There is simply too many thinh=gs I need to learn before I tackle the Linux releases. I think I will simply blow away the Linux distro and redo every thing from scratch. I will research how to read the sources.list file and try from the top. Please fell free to close this request for assistance.

Thank you for your effort.

The sources.list is in the /etc/apt/ folder , you can navigate there through the file manager (read-only though), or by typing the following command:

$sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
