Cannot Read Hard Drive

Asked by iamrhart

I am trying to instal Windows XP as an OS, but the Hard Drive is not readable.
I just bought a Laptop with Ubuntu pre-loaded as the OS. When i instert the Windows XP Professional SP/2 i am allowed to boot it. I get to the part where it tells me to either install (press enter), Re-instal (press R) Windows components, and F3 Quit. After i press "enter" (to install) i get the message that the Hard disk could not be found. And that i need to make sure it is working properly, etc. etc. etc.

I need to instal Windows XP so that i can install the required programs for my Classes, (Student). Any and all information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
iamrhart

It is for sure a SATA-HDD-drive. Windows XP is not able to work with it without a separate driver. You normally should get a FDD with the driver... but as I'm sure the laptop has no FDD... you would have to build your own WinXP-install-CD with the driver included.

It is very possible.
But this is the wrong place to search for help for a Windows installation. ;-)

And there might eventually be an option in the BIOS to set the HDD to an IDE-compatible-mode... that would make the driver-question obsolete and Win-install natively possible.

Much fun and luck...
Greetings

You're trying to over-write ubuntu with windows. I cannot tell you how evil that makes you.
Anyway, I suggest buying a copy of parallels software from shop.ubuntu.com or installing
wine from synaptic. Ubuntu laptops and systems are not designed to run windows properly.
Windows is a memory hog that makes computers crash.

GET SOMEONE TO HELP YOU.

Can you help with this problem?
