How do I "reformat" the System Tray icons

Asked by Nick Bridgwater

Kubuntu Intrepid fresh install, relative noob

I clicked on something (!) and the icons in my System Tray moved to new positions - what do I do to get them back to their usual places. Also tasks that are started no longer show in the Tray.

More detail :
I had the Application Launcher at the left, then a gap where started tasks appeared, then icons for applications I had placed in the tray, then standard icons followed by the date/time and trash.

Now I have 5 groups of icons spread across the System Tray - some I placed in the tray + a few others, then a gap, then sound control, network manager, then gap, then new device notifier, gap, data/time, gap, trash & application launcher.

Help please !

And while I'm at it, where are the settings for the system sounds (so I can turn them off without muting the whole system) ?

Just start tinkering with your menus. Consider this a safe, harmless exploration.
If you screw anything up just log in with the failsafe option in GDM.

Unfortunately this is Kubuntu so it's KDE - is there a failsafe equivalent ??

Found http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Plasma/FAQ#My_panel_is_gone.2C_how_do_I_get_it_back.

Alt-F2 then Kquitapp plasma
Alt-F2 start Dolphin, find /.kde/share/config & rename plasma-appletsrc
Alt-F2 then plasma

This gets back the original desktop. Having then been through the exercise to set everything up how I like it again, I've taken a copy of the plasma-appletsrc file in case it happens again !
