removing ubuntu

Asked by gallagher

I have recently successfully installed ubuntu 8.10. I initially ran into problems with my screen resolution setting which resulted in me having three installations of the unbunto OS on my PC (its a long story). I only want to keep one of the installations, (the one that has a screen resolution that is supported by my monitor) Can I simply delete the other two installations using my favoured installation.

If I delete will the other two installations will the boot loader detect the change., so that I am not presented with the option of booting up into a deleted OS. (I also have a windows OS on the machine)

Or would it better reformating the partions that the two unwanted OS reside on, I am not sure on how to do this. The partions the two unwanted OS's reside on are relatively small and I don't need the space. Again if I reformatted would the boot loader be happy

Usually you can just delete the others. Should do nothing... BUT

It might be better if someone is looking in your /boot/menu.lst before and after. Also the MBR might point to the wrong partition. So...

If there is no "professional" besides you... prefer to keep it like it is. (especially if you really don't need the space)

Greetings
