Install ubuntu on a HP 2133 notebook

I just got a new toy. My HP 2133 has no CD drive and has suse enterprise installed. I would like to put ubuntu 8.10 on it. I am a total linux newby and have no idea how to do this. Can I put an a ubuntu distribution on an sd card or a usb drive? I use ubuntu on my desktop and am getting used to it.

ubuntu provide all drivers, but you have to see wheter the hardware is compartible with linux and gnu

Firstly, to get Ubuntu on a flash drive (usb stick, sd card etc) see the following Ubuntu community doc:
