Could not download all repo indexes

Asked by wan

Hi Ubunt-udes!

I have (yet another) Synaptic "Could not download all repository indexes" problem:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz: 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.40 80]

My /etc/apt/sources.list looks like:

# See http://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes for how to upgrade to

Here's my DNS settings:
cat /etc/resolv.conf
search aubri.lgs-net.com
nameserver 10.76.8.50
nameserver 10.76.8.52

Any ideas what's going wrong here? (I am running this ubuntu from a VM with a bridged connection to an XP install on my dev box. The bridged connection works just fine, I can browse the net from either OS & both OS can ping the domain names from my sources.list / the IP addresses from the synaptic error).

TIA

Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn is not more supported from October 2008

So please upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 using the Ubuntu 7.10 alternate cd to upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04

Please read at the end of this official howto http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

Download the ubuntu-7.10-alternate-i386.iso image file from here...

http://torrent.ubuntu.com:6969/

(if you have installed Ubuntu 7.04 standard 32bits)

Hope this helps

Yep, that would explain it alright. I inherited this ubuntu as a VM image - the partition for the disk is a bit small so I guess I will try to resize it before upgrading...

Thanks!

Damn. Why not just have it laying around? And just not update it... I have one pc running feisty, and don't need a newer ubu on that one (I have other pc's with 8.10). I just need to install some additional software...

I understand that they stop supporting it, but not that they delete the repository.

Anyway, it should give a proper error message, not a 404.

And upgrading to 7.10 will only postpone the problem a bit I guess. You'll have to go for 8.04 (or 8.10) so it's a reinstall.
