Ubuntu comes with lots of drivers to chances are good that you don't need any additional drivers.

If you boot your computer using the Ubuntu desktop CD a Ubuntu system starts right off the CD so you can see if there's any hardware not working out of the box.

According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HPCompaq6720s about everything but the WLAN is working with Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy), maybe with 8.10 the WLAN works, too.

If you have problems with some piece of hardware feel free to ask.
